The Skin Clinic Marlborough provides a comprehensive service for mole and skin cancer assessments, diagnosis and treatment. Dr Foley is one of the few New Zealand doctors who have undergone international training in dermoscopy. He is a member of the International Dermoscopy Society and the Skin Cancer College of Australia and New Zealand.
Dermoscopy uses a hand help instrument to assess structures within the skin allowing an earlier diagnosis of skin cancers compared to standard skin assessments. This technique is now recommended in the Australasian Melanoma Guidelines.
The clinic has a dedicated skin cancer procedure room allowing both simple and complex skin cancer surgeries. These include skin grafts, skin flaps, biopsies and standard excisions. The Skin Clinic Marlborough is one of only two clinics in the south island to offer Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT).
This is a non surgical treatment for two common skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma insitu). It is particularly useful on sites such as the face and lower leg.
The clinic continues to invest in staff training and in providing the most up to date technology. Dr Foley is also involved in clinical research and has just completed a 2 year trial on a teaching dermoscopy. His current research project is assessing the dermoscopic features of basal cell carcinoma subtypes.
